About us

i – I’m Lester. I write, record and produce all of the Blue Fox Music tracks on this site. I’ve been working in the music world for over 20 years. Ever since getting hooked on The Beach Boys Greatest Hits cassette as a child, I’ve always strived to create catchy melodic music. I started out as a guitarist in early 2000s power-pop punk band The Bombjacks and then ran my own label, Hectic Records, releasing alternative and now impossible-to-find albums. This was followed by a decade-long stint hunkered down at Ignition Studios in London producing music for hundreds of bands, picking up some invaluable skills along the way. Creating my own music was on the back-burner throughout most of this time – until my next (and current) venture!

Blue Fox Music came about almost by accident in 2012 when I threw a few tracks up on AudioJungle and within months found myself on the Envato top selling artist list. The rest is history as, together with my wife and trusty French bulldog Nico, we bought an RV and decided to hit the roads of Europe full-time whilst continuing to make music for content creators like you!

I previously paid for a license, why is there a copyright claim on my YouTube video?

We recently moved to a new Content ID provider that monitors the use of our tracks. The vast majority of channels and videos that were previously cleared have been cleared with our new provider too, but if you are seeing a copyright claim and have previously purchased a license, please email us your video URL at: tracks@bluefoxmusic.com and we’ll get it sorted for you.

Who's behind Blue Fox Music?

Lester Woodward is the UK-born music producer behind Blue Fox Music.

Why are the tracks free?

Not everyone wants to pay upfront for using music – particularly if you’re just getting started. Unlike other royalty free music sites, we decided to remove all barriers to accessing the music. If you use a free (unlicensed) version of our tracks, Youtube may recognise the music and place an advert on your video. I’ll probably earn a few cents for my work and you’ll avoid dropping any of your hard-earned cash on my music. You’ll always have the option to pay for a basic license to remove the copyright claim at any time and monetize your content – highly recommended if your videos start getting popular!

Where can I use the tracks?

Online video sites such as YouTube, Vimeo. Social Media – TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. If you’re ever unsure, drop me a line

How do I clear the tracks for use?

If you have purchased a license for a track, please email tracks@bluefoxmusic.com with a link to where your content is being used and we’ll quickly get that video cleared for you.

Pro Tip: We recommend you set your Youtube video to “Unlisted” upon uploading until the “matched third party” copyright claim is cleared. That way it ensures you monetize your video the moment it goes live.

What does a license let me do that an unlicensed track does not?

Use our tracks without attribution and cleared from copyright claims.

What's the catch?

We may earn a few cents from unlicensed tracks when used for free. This is because Blue Fox Music is registered with Youtube’s Content ID system and can result in ads running on your video. If you’d rather keep any ad revenues, or run your video ad-free, you’ll need to purchase a basic license and we’ll quickly clear your video of any copyright claim.

Do you accept commissions?

Typically not, but we’d consider it for interesting projects.

Can I request tweaks to an existing track?

Please contact us for a quote if you require customization.

Can I Remix, Sample or Modify a Blue Fox Music track and distribute it as my own song?

No, sorry. You’re not permitted to upload any of my music (modified or not) to any digital distribution services such as CD Baby, DistroKid, TuneCore etc.

Why have I received a Content ID / third party copyright claim on YouTube?

Blue Fox Music is registered with Youtube’s Content ID system which can result in a copyright claim on your video. This is nothing to worry about and will not adversely affect the status of your Youtube channel. Please note, a Content ID copyright claim is NOT a copyright strike.

If you’ve purchased a license, then please email us your video link at tracks@bluefoxmusic.com and we’ll quickly remove the claim for you.

What file format is the downloaded music?

MP3 for free tracks. High Quality WAV + MP3 for paid tracks.

What is Royalty Free Music?

A type of music licensing that is paid for once allowing you to use the music without having to pay recurring royalties for continued use. Royalty Free Music does not mean that the music is Copyright-Free or Public Domain.

Can I edit or modify the length of a track to fit my project?

We try to offer tracks in a variety of lengths – particularly for social. However, if none of the lengths provided are suitable, you can certainly edit the length to fit your project.

What’s the difference between a copyright claim and a copyright strike?

Copyright claim just means we let YouTube know that the song in your video belongs to us. You may get a copyright claim when using our tracks, but don’t worry – this is not a bad thing and it absolutely will not affect your Youtube channel status. A copyright strike is something else entirely – when using someone’s intellectual property in violation of copyright law. 

Can I re-sell or re-distribute your tracks?

No, sorry. You are not permitted to upload any of my music (modified or not) to any digital distribution services such as Spotify, CD Baby, DistroKid, TuneCore etc.
